Trees in the forests of the Western and Eastern United States are well represented in the contemporary color landscape photographs of Dennis Frates, David Jensen, Larry Geddis, Erskine Wood, and Larry N. Olson. Historic black and white landscape photographs highlighted the bold contrasts of backlit trees' shillouettes, as well as the snow laden alpine trees of his vintage skiing images.

The seasons are characteristcally depicted with startling autumn color in the wilds of the mountains and in cultured enclaves such as the Japanese Garden in Portland Oregon, as well the fresh blossoms and tender greens of spring. The warm magesty of green summertime forests transforms into the abstract designs of winter's white.

Individual trees, personalized by posture, profile, or place create memorable images when color and light animate their character and suggest metaphor. Many seek comfort and repose amid trees' calm vitality.

Just northwest of Crater Lake National Park winds the North Umpqua River with its pristine watershed and fabled steelhead runs. Dan Callaghan's North Umpqua River photography book and photographic prints celebrate the grace and power of that fly fishing paradise.

North Umpqua River fly fishing photos by Dan Callaghan represent his fifty year passion for fly fishing and close observance of the watershed's moods and currents. From the photographic details of leaf, branch, and forested slopes, into compelling stretches of current, and up to the marvels of sunrise and sunset in the tree covered valley, Dan Callaghan's North Umpqua River photography was as much a continual quest to share the experience as it was to extend his own grasp of the beauty of the passing moment.
